US outslugs Japan in matchup between baseball superpowers

The US won one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan.

The United States outscored Japan, 21-6, after a game that had a one-run difference after five innings. In the top of the sixth, the US offence exploded with 14 runs on nine hits, including a grand slam by Anthony Ramon and a solo shot by Anthony Frausto.

Japan used six pitchers. Starter Shunei Kashiwagi allowed seven runs, all unearned. With the bat, he kept Japan in the game producing three runs on two hits, including a home run.

The US offence had 16 hits. Both center fielder Jonah Saken and right fielder Trent O'Malley went 4-for-4.
