Ticara Geldenhuis’ homer lifts Australia over Korea 10-3

Claire O’Sullivan pitched five quality innings in her first appearance on the mound, striking out six while allowing three hits and one run.

Australia earned on Thursday their first win in the Group A of the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup with a 10-3 victory against Korea. Ticara Geldenhuis homered in the second frame and led the Australian offence at Port Arthur Stadium.

Both teams started the day with a 0-2 record and were looking for their much-needed first win of the competition to remain in the hunt for a spot in next year’s Finals. 

They both sent a message in the first two innings of play, scoring five times to get a comfortable lead from the beginning. With the game 2-1 for Australia, Geldenhuis belted a two-run homer in the second inning leading to a string of eight unanswered runs by her team.

In the final inning, Korea scored two on a grounder by Soyeon Park and a passed ball.
