Australia earned on Thursday their first win in the Group A of the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup with a 10-3 victory against Korea. Ticara Geldenhuis homered in the second frame and led the Australian offence at Port Arthur Stadium.

Both teams started the day with a 0-2 record and were looking for their much-needed first win of the competition to remain in the hunt for a spot in next year’s Finals.
They both sent a message in the first two innings of play, scoring five times to get a comfortable lead from the beginning. With the game 2-1 for Australia, Geldenhuis belted a two-run homer in the second inning leading to a string of eight unanswered runs by her team.
In the final inning, Korea scored two on a grounder by Soyeon Park and a passed ball.
Claire O’Sullivan pitched five quality innings in her first appearance on the mound, striking out six while allowing three hits and one run. She earned the win.
