U-15 Women’s Softball Utsugi Cup set to begin in Takasaki, Japan

The six games of the group stage will be played on Saturday 3rd June, with the play-off matchups on Sunday.

Six U-15 women’s softball national teams are ready to compete at the Utsugi Cup. The nine-game tournament will run throughout the weekend at Takasaki City Softball Field Utsugi Stadium in Takasaki City, Gunma, Japan.

World No. 2 Japan will host No. 1 USA, No. 6 Mexico, No. 8 Italy, No. 11 China, and Tanzania for the first edition of the Utsugi Cup.

Japan, Mexico and Tanzania will compete in Group A, while USA, Italy and China will face off in Group B.

Saturday 3 June

  • 13:00 Japan vs Tanzania
  • 13:00 Italy vs China
  • 15:00 USA vs China

Sunday 4 June

  • 9:00  Fifth place game Group A 3 vs  Group B 3 
  • 11:00 Bronze medal game Group A 2  vs Group B 2
  • 13:00 Final Group A 1 vs Group B 1

On Sunday, 4 June, three play-off games will be played for fifth place (third-place teams from both groups), the bronze medal (second-place teams from both groups) and gold medal (top teams from each group).

China and Japan are preparing for the U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup Asia Qualifier, to be staged from 13-17 June at the Fu-Hsing Softball Stadium in Puli Township, Nantou, Taiwan.

The tournament will also serve as ideal preparation for the first edition of the WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup, which will take place from 21-29 October in Tokyo, Japan.
