U-15 Women's Softball World Cup Day 2: Japan, USA and Puerto Rico keep win records intact; Chinese Taipei, Czechia, Peru claim first wins; Mexico bounce back to beat Italy

Hosts Japan, USA and Puerto Rico secured their second straight victories, while Chinese Taipei, Czechia and Peru claimed their first wins on the second day of the U-15 Women's Softball World Cup. After opening the day with a loss, Mexico made a comeback to close the day with a win against Italy.

Japan, USA and Puerto Rico kept their perfect win records on Day 2 of the WBSC U-15 Women's Softball World Cup in Tokyo Japan while Chinese Taipei, Czechia and Peru bounced back from opening day losses to claim their first wins of the tournament.

It was a different case for the Mexicans, who started with a win on the first day, but were not able to carry their momentum on their first game on Sunday as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Chinese Taipei.

However, they came back strong in the evening, beating the Italians to improve their record to 2-1. The Philippines also have a 2-1 record following their forfeit win over Uganda.

Brazil v Czechia 5-6

Czechia eluded Brazil's scare in the top of the seventh and came up with a game-win 6-5 off Johana Kasova's single to put Tereza Skoloudikova on home plate. The Czechs recorded their first win in the tournament.

Brazil's Mariana Sonoda got a hit but left her and another runner stranded to finish off the play in the top of the first. In the next half of the inning, Czechia started with a walk and a hit that progressed to a two-run play when Ema Prybova tripled to right centre field, plating Viktorie Pemova and Kristyna Bohacova, respectively.

Katerina Holubcova came home to score Czechia's third run on Pemova's double after singling and stealing second in the bottom of the second inning.

Czechia squeezed in another run with a bunt, then Bohacova lined a double to left field, plating Nela Svestkova and updating the score to 5-0

Brazil finally got on the board with two runs in the top of the fifth, then added another run in the next frame to trail within two runs.

Angelina Muhoz's singled to the middle, setting up Talita Yamaji and Sonoda to score the two runs, tying the ballgame at 5-all.

Czechia walked off in the bottom of the seventh to clinch victory 6-5.

Chinese Taipei v Mexico 2-0

Chinese Taipei claimed their first victory with a late surge in the seventh inning to win 2-0 against Mexico.

The game began with a pitching duel that kept both teams off the scoreboard throughout six innings, until Chinese Taipei scored two runs in the top of the seventh.

Tien Yi-Hsuan lined a double to left field, plating Chi Yen-Ting, then completed the second run off Jian Yu-Cian's single.

Chinese Taipei made the quick outs in the bottom of the seventh, securing their first win in the U-15 Women's Softball World Cup.

Puerto Rico v Czechia 13-0

Puerto Rico commanded a 13-0 victory over Czechia, highlighted by Nia Melendez's three-run homer to give the team a 2-0 winning start in the competition.

Puerto Rico got right on the board in the top of the first, Yamilette scored a run off Saliah Collazo's single. Puerto Rico had a more productive second inning, producing four runs.

The Puerto Ricans benefitted from two errors, a single to left field by Yamilette Cordova and then a sacrifice fly to extend their lead to 5-0.

The next two stanzas were silent for both sides, then Puerto Rico broke the silence with a run in the top of the fifth. Then another productive inning followed shortly for the Puerto Ricans, as Melendez hit a three-run homer that mounted a 10-0 lead.

The scoring surge continued for the Puerto Ricans in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three more runs for a decisive lead of 13-0.

New Zealand v Peru 3-5

Peru secured their first victory in the Opening Round with a 5-3 triumph over New Zealand. Brianna Vick allowed three hits and three runs, striking out 13 over seven innings of work.

After a scoreless first inning, the scoring started for both sides in the next frame, starting with New Zealand getting a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Peru responded with three runs to overtake the lead 3-2.

New Zealand tied things up again in the top of the fifth, as Ava Prescott crossed the plate on a sacrifice bunt by Angela Harrison.

Peru retaliated with a two-run finish in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead 5-3, as Maria Portocarrero scored her run on a fielder's choice and Brianna Vick on a Kyrstal Mujica triple.

Japan v Peru 10-0

Japan collected their second triumph at their home World Cup after beating Peru 10-0 over five innings. Uran Matsutani led the Japanese offence as she went three-for-three in hitting.

With two outs and a runner on second base, Matsutani singled to right field to put a on the scoreboard for Japan in the top of the second inning.

Japan added a second run in the third inning when Saki Anraku sent a double to left field to score Yumeka Kagen.

Matsutani then took her turn to reach the home plate and score the third run for Japan in the fourth inning off Lilia Lewis' sacrifice fly. The offence continued, earning six more runs off consecutive errors by Peru.

Japan got their 10th run in the fifth inning with Lewis reached home plate on Hirari Takaku's double. The hosts got the last three outs on Peru to close the game in the fifth inning.

USA v Philippines 20-0

Anabella Abdullah, Stevie Lane and Samantha Alekman had three RBIs each in USA's 20-0 three-inning victory over the Philippines. The World No. 1 have claimed their second win in the U-15 World Cup.

Jordyn Reese hit a single to second base, driving Aspen Boulware for USA's first run, then completed the second run on Kenya Lapuaho double to right field.

The USA lead blew up to 6-0 as they scored runs on a single, a triple and a wild pitch before Philippines found a solution to stop the offence. They added two more runs in the second inning to lead 8-0.

USA's 12 runs in the third inning settled things down for their second tournament win with a 20-winning margin.

Italy v Mexico 0-4

After opening the day with a loss, Mexico bounced back and closed Day 2 with a 4-0 win over Italy to improve their record to 2-1.

Italy and Mexico each had a hit in the first inning but could not generate enough power to push a run across.

The Mexican defence managed to silence Italy through four at-bats in the top of the second, before they scored back-to-back runs off pitcher Giulia Squalizza, closing the inning 2-0.

Mexico tacked on another run in the fifth inning to increase their lead 3-0, as Izarely Almaguer reached home plate courtesy of Karina Rodriguez Ibarra's double to left field.

In the sixth inning, Sophia Hernandez Dominguez hit a single to the right side to open an opportunity for Savannah Vargas to score the decisive run 4-0.
