USA put on offensive showcase in 14-0 win over Korea

Team USA scored in every at bat, including multiple-run rallies in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

The United States lineup tallied 13 hits in the game, eight of them extra bases, to propel their team to a 14-0, five-inning victory over Korea, opening Day 2 of the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup. USA earned their second consecutive win of the tournament and remain on top of the standings. Ashton Landsell hit a triple and a homer for the winning team.

Team USA scored in every at bat, including multiple-run rallies in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

USA started the game with a big inning. They sent 10 batters, hitting six hits and three extra bases to score five runs in the top of the first. Landsell hit a leadoff triple, while Alex Hugo and Denae Benites doubled for the US in that inning. They never looked back.

USA pitchers Jamie Baum, Cody Eckert and Olivia Pichardo combined for the shutout. Baum was the winning pitcher after three innings of work, allowing two hits and two walks against five strikeouts. Eckert and Pichardo came from the bullpen and pitched one inning each.

The losing pitcher was Sayuri Ono, who went 1+ innings while giving up seven hits and six runs.

Offensively, Valerie Perez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Landsell, Hugo, Schaber and Danae Benites recorded multi-hit games for USA. Korea’s only three hits of the game came off the bat of Sooji Ahn, Nuri Shin and Haeri Kim.
