Venezuela defeats defending champs Chinese Taipei, disappoints over 2,000 fans
The defending U-12 Baseball World Cup Champions came just short of the their second come from behind victory in the last 24 hours.
Venezuela defeated Chinese Taipei in front of over 2,100 fans at Asia Pacifica International Stadium in Tainan after seven innings of intense baseball.
Venezuela used four pitchers. Cesar Garcia and Willangel Sanchez both pitched one inning to earn the win and a save.
The defending World Champions got an early lead off Angel Betancourt and Juan Perez.
Venezuela slugged their way to reverse the lead. Left fielder David Vabalas hit a two-run homer and catcher Salomon Millan added a three-run shot.
Chinese Taipei, after walking off on Panama on Day 1, completed another dramatica comeback in the bottom of the sixth, scoring the tying run on a bases-loaded walk.
Venezuela made the most of the international tie-break rule and scored five runs in the top of the seventh on four consecutive two-out singles.
Chinese Taipei's second comeback in the last 24 hours came just short. Chem-yu En, who represented the potential tying run, struck out looking. Chen En sent a slow roller to shortstop and Garcia sealed his own win with a perfect throw to first.
With the win, 2-0 Venezuela sits atop Group A, along with 2-0 Mexico, while Chinese Taipei falls to 1-1.
