Yeison Diaz, Angel Adames' offence drive Venezuela past Singapore in Placement Round

Yeison Diaz had two RBIs and Angel Adames scored twice for the winners.

Venezuela clinched a 5-3 win against Singapore on Tuesday in first Placement Round of the WBSC U-23 Men's Softball World Cup. A three-hit, three-run third inning propelled the South Americans to the win. Yeison Diaz hit two RBIs and Angel Adames scored twice for the winners.

In the first inning, Yeison Diaz hit an RBI single to left centre to plate Angel Adames, who also reached with a leadoff single, to give Venezuela a 1-0 lead.

In the third, Jesus Gimenez's single, Jose Lopez's triple and Diaz's single connected consecutive hits to drive in three runs for Venezuela in a big inning that proved crucial for the Venezuelan win.

Singapore answered in the top of the fourth with two runs. Zu Ray Low knocked in the first run with a single, while Matthew Lin scored Jeron Tan with a grounder.

Adames scored one more for Venezuela in the bottom of the fifth. He reached on a single, and later scored on a passed ball, mounting a 5-2 edge for the South Americans.

Finally, in the top of the sixth, Audric Chia scored Singapore’s third run on a grounder.

Venezuela tied Czechia on top of the Placement Round standings with a 3-0 record.
