Video: WBSC reinforces commitment to protecting clean athletes and the integrity of the game

The video features the contribution of the Athletes Commission and is part of the #PlayBallPlayFair campaign.

The WBSC Integrity Unit has released a new video in the #PlayBallPlayFair campaign against doping, highlighting the WBSC's commitment to protecting clean athletes and the integrity of the game.

Beng Choo Low, the WBSC Secretary General and Chair of the WBSC Integrity Unit, which is responsible for ensuring that the WBSC complies with its obligations under the World Anti-Doping Code and moreover, protects the rights of the athletes at all times, spoke of the concerns about doping in the highly competitive world of today's sports.

"We seek to protect the clean athletes for their hard training and sacrifices by striving for fair play, honest competition and mutual respect," Low said. "Our sport of baseball softball and the WBSC are totally committed in our fight against doping to protect and support our clean athletes who give their best and play true."

Gianfranco Beltrami, the chair of the WBSC Medical Commission, explained WBSC's mission to keep baseball/softball doping-free and added that the Commission he chairs is available to clear any doubt that athletes may have.

"Our mission is to promote the integrity of our sport and keep it free from doping and to support the health of our athletes in accordance with the IOC, the WADA Anti-doping Code and International Standards for Testing and Investigations," Beltrami said.

WBSC Athlete Commission co-chairs Maria Soto and Justin Huber explained the athletes' responsibility while Commission members Randolph Oduber and Bruno Motroni spoke about the Prohibited List and the Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).

"Any athlete under our jurisdiction may be tested at anytime and anywhere in or out of competition through urine or blood samples," said Soto, who was recently elected president of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee and had previously played for the Venezuelan National Softball Team for 18 years, representing her country in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and in six WBSC World Championships. "Athletes will always have sole responsibility for any substance they ingest".

In addition to this latest video, the WBSC also offers more information on the Anti Doping section of the WBSC website, including webinars and educational tools .
