WBSC Baseball5 World Cup - Day Two: Great Baseball5 vibe continues at El Zocalo

Chinese Taipei, Tunisia, Cuba, Venezuela and Japan all won their games on Tuesday morning following Mexico's win over Lithuania on Monday night.

Day two of the Baseball5 World Cup 2022 started in the same spirit of the previous evening’s amazing first game and opening spectacle with quick tags, brilliant catches and tight contests across the five games in the morning session at El Zocalo in Mexico City on Tuesday.

In the opening game of the day, Asia Cup winners Chinese Taipei and Asia Cup bronze medallists Korea put on a quick tempo spectacle with Chinese Taipei, who beat Korea in the Super Round of the Asia Cup 14-0 (just one set), winning the Group B clash 8-1, 3-0.

The second game of the day was an all Africa Group B contest, with Africa Championship silver medallists Kenya claiming the first set against Tunisia 3-2 in an eight innings thriller before star short stop Simon Okeyo withdrew from the game with a leg injury from which point the tables turned. Tunisia showed greater precision to storm back and win 2-3, 7-2, 10-2.

Tournament favourites Cuba turned on the charm in their opening game of the tournament taking the first set in their Group A game against South Africa 11-1 before the Africa champions settled into the game, Cuba winning the second set 2-0.

Another tournament favourite Venezuela came up against a game French side who, after starting quietly, grew in confidence as the Group B game went on. Venezuela won 5-2 and 5-4 in a second set, which went to eight innings (three above the standard five innings) to showcase the strong potential of the European champions.

The last game of the morning session saw another all-Asia clash, this time featuring Japan and Hong Kong, with Japan, who won this Asia Cup encounter in August 6-2, 10-0 proving too good again, winning the Group A game 7-0, 4-0.

The Baseball5 World Cup Opening Round continues on Tuesday with six more games and through to Thursday before the top three teams of both groups advance to the Super Round with the bottom three teams moving to the Placement Round.

The top four teams from the Super Round will qualify for the bronze and gold medal matches, which will take place on Saturday.
