WBSC U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup Americas Qualifier underway in Sincelejo, Colombia

The tournament will award four berths in the World Cup, to be played in Hermosillo, Mexico, from 11 to 19 November. Six teams are participating in the event.

With a single game between hosts Colombia and Peru, the U-18 Men’s Softball Pan American Championship started last night in Sincelejo, Colombia, with six participating national teams. The tournament will qualify four teams for the category’s World Cup, set to take place in Hermosillo, Mexico, from 11 to 19 November.

World No. 1 Argentina, No. 4 Canada, No. 5 USA, No. 8 Venezuela, No. 24 Colombia and No. 28 Peru will play a single round robin to start the competition, with the top two playing the Final on 9 September. All games of the U-18 Pan Am Men’s Softball Championship will be live streamed on WBSC Americas YouTube Channel.

In Game 1 of the tournament, No. 28 Peru stunned No. 24 Colombia in an 8-7 thriller. With the game tied 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh, the Peruvian squad completed the walk off on a bases-loaded walk by Marcelo Sotelo that ended the game.

Action continues on Monday with three games at the Edgardo Porras Arrazola Stadium. At 2:00 p.m. USA will make their debut against Venezuela, followed by Argentina vs Perú at 5:00 p.m. and Canadá vs Colombia at 8:00 p.m. (all local times).

The top four teams in the final standings will qualify for the XIV WBSC U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup. They will join world No. 2 Australia, No. 3 Japan, No. 6 Czechia, No. 7 New Zealand, No. 10 Mexico (hosts), No. 12 Singapore and No. 17 Israel.
