Group A

Chinese Taipei v Ireland

Last game of the day sees world No. 3 Chinese Taipei looking for their first win of the tournament after losing to USA yesterday and Great Britain earlier today.

Ireland stand at 1:1 after beating Botswana in the evening game yesterday and losing to Australia earlier today.

World No. 3 Chinese Taipei get off to a great start with Chia-Yi Chen piercing the infield to score Feng-Chen Lin and Szu-Shih Li in the top of the first. But Ireland immediately replied with Abigail Horton scored on a Jamison Brockenbrough hit over Ting-En Chiang in centre field.

The hitting didn't stop in the second inning with Chia-Wen Shen smashing a home run over centre field to quell any thoughts of Ireland putting some pressure on the Asian side. With Chih-Ying Lin also scoring off the homer, Chinese Taipei took a 4-1 lead before a Hsuan Liu ground rule double to left field scored Yi-Ting Yang to stretch the lead to 5-1. Chia-Yi Chen and Feng-Chen Lin also scored to give Chinese Taipei a 7-1 lead in the top of the second.

Chia-Wen Shen scored in the third inning to stretch the lead to 8-1 before Ting-En Chiang scores and Feng-Chen Lin and Hsuan Liu cross home plate on a Szu-Shih Li hit up the middle. A great double play from second base Abigail Horton to short stop Alexandra Montelone at second brings the inning to a close, Chinese Taipei ahead 11-1.

USA v Botswana

First turn at bat for USA and Aubrey Leach scores on fielders choice after master blaster Kiki Milloy grounds out at third before Sahvanna Jaquish scores in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Leach to deep left field where Amantle Matome takes an impressive catch.

Alison Aguilar homers to left field in the top of the third to stretch the lead to 3-0 before Ruth Mosweu takes a great running catch in the right field to deny Milloy. In taking the catch Mosweu hobbled on her ankle before receiving treatment, bringing back memories of Botswana's game yesterday against Ireland when left fielder Bonolo Molefhe left the field after taking a ripper of a catch. Fortunately Mosweu was able to walk off the field as rain brings on a weather delay.

Play was only delayed five minutes before play resumed with Mosweu back in play in right field. It wasn't long before Ali Aliyah drives a triple into deep left field to score Jocelyn Pumehana to make it 4-0. A Nicole Bates single to deep centre scores Andrews and Jaquish to make it 6-0 in the top of the third. A ground rule double from Hannah Flippen after putting over the centre field fence scores Bates and Leach and USA lead 8-0 after three innings.

After USA were kept hitless in the fourth - sparking celebrations for Botswana pitcher Merriam Leave - the fifth inning saw Andrews score on a bases loaded walk before a Flippen single up the middle scored Jaquish and Mia Davidson. Leach, Flippen, Milloy Jocelyn Alo crossed to finish the scoring at 16-0.

Ireland v Australia

Game two sees Ireland take on Australia, Ireland having beaten Botswana on day one 7-0 while Australia played the opening game of the tournament, losing to Great Britain 2-0.

It's a deadlock until the bottom of the fourth when, with loaded bases, Australia's Georgia Hood pops a fly ball to left field and with shortstop Alexandra Monteleone running back, she manages to make the running catch despite colliding with left fielder Savannah Brockenbrough. In the process, Kylie Steemers scores from third. Australia up 1-0, their first run of the tournament.

It's in left field again where Australia score two more with Brockenbrough, running in from the deep, dropping a diving catch off the skied ball from Australia captain Clare Warwick, scoring Taylah Tsitsikronis and Steemers again for a 3-0 lead.

And Jada Wall made it 4-0 with a cracking homer over left field in the bottom of the sixth, which gave Australia the win and move them to 1:1 for the tournament and the same record for Ireland.

Great Britain v Chinese Taipei

Some great match ups on day two with the opening game between Chinese Taipei and Great Britain a crucial game for the world No. 3 after they lost to USA in their opening game on Tuesday.

Great Britain are the first to get on the board thanks to a Georgia Corrick home run over centre field. The world No. 16 are 2-0 ahead after three innings.

Could that be the play of the game? Bottom of the fourth and Morgan Salmon catches the line drive from Chia-Wen Shen at third before pulling off a double play, firing to Chloe Wigington to tag out Yi-Hsuan Su at first.

And it is Great Britain who claim the win, yesterday's Player of the Day, Georgina Corrick manages to keep Chinese Taipei scoreless despite eight runners left on base.

With the win, Great Britain have taken a major step towards Saturday's playoffs while Chinese Taipei are still looking for their first win after losing to defending champions USA on Day One.

Pregame

The forecast for the rest of the day is also very promising.

Balbriggan weather Day 2

Pleased to say after taking this stunning catch against Ireland yesterday, Botswana's Bonolo Molefhe is ok but won't participate in this tournament any further. After some rest and recuperation she will be able to play again in a couple of weeks.
