WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup bronze medallist Luis Bencomo recognised with Teporaca award in Mexico

Bencomo was the only Mexican player included in the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup All-World Team.

Mexican Baseball5 player Luis Bencomo received in December the Teporaca Municipal Award for Excellence in Sports, the biggest sports honour awarded by the Chihuaha City Hall in 34 different disciplines. The 17-year-old Mexican Baseball5 player was recognised after helping Mexico win the bronze medal at the maiden WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup, staged in Ankara, Türkiye, in October last year.

After finishing with a 4-2 record in the Super Round, Bencomo helped Mexico claim a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Türkiye (2-3, 7-1, 4-2) in the bronze medal game. Bencomo was the only Mexican player included in the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup All-World Team. 

The recipients of the award were voted by a special commission formed mostly by sports journalists from Chihuahua. This the 37th edition of this prize, which was awarded this year to 40 athletes from the capital of the Chihuahua State.

The awards ceremony took place at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Chihuahua.
