Chinese Taipei is playing for fifth place on Sunday at the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup in Edmonton, Canada. They defeated the Netherlands by a score of 7-5 on Saturday morning, opening the classification round of the tournament. The Dutch team was up to par in the game at Telus Field, but has to settle to play for seventh.
The lone European team in Edmonton had the better start into the contest, taking a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first thanks to a two-run single by Jessica Kroeskop. Chinese Taipei answered right away, getting up in front with three runs. Chu Yu Pan and Yu Han Liu erased the deficit with a RBI single and a sac fly. Tzu Hui Pan capped the rally with a RBI double.
But instead of falling apart the Dutch squad stayed in the game and came back. They scored three runs in the top of the fourth to regain a 5-3 lead. Two scored on a hit by Gallieth Haaker, who later also crossed the plate on an error. However they couldn’t close it out. With the help of two errors Chinese Taipei scored three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to prevail 7-5. Yung Hsien Cheng and Chu Yu Pan crossed the plate twice for the Asians.
