Sustainability Partners

After signing the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework in 2021 and after the release of our sustainability strategy in 2022, the WBSC took a step forward towards in January 2023 by signing a partnership with two important implementation partners: "Green Future Project" (GFP) and "Pilio". The WBSC, GFP & Pilio defined a long-term project that starts from quantifying the WBSC’s carbon emissions and then concretely evaluate actions to lead our IF to a real emission reduction, first by educating our employees and the WBSC community, secondly by offsetting our carbon emissions and by protecting specific areas and communities, and lastly by bringing effective practices into our tournaments and events in the following years.

WBSC signed with the Alibaba Cloud in October 2023 as its dedicated sustainability partner for Baseball5. Under the collaboration, both parties will work together to develop tailor-made sustainable products, services and solutions, aiming to make WBSC events more eco-friendly. This cooperative effort is part of the WBSC's ongoing commitment to achieve its sustainability targets, a key component of the Confederation’s Strategic Plan 2022-2028 that aims to utilise baseball/softball as a catalyst for sustainability and social development.

What is Green Future Project?

Green Future Project is a climate-tech B Corporation that has the objective of supporting companies in hitting their ESG targets through different innovative solutions.

The overall goal is to involve our employees in being active players in the fight against climate change and to provide them and the broader community, a platform to track our positive impact in real-time, learning more about the projects we are supporting and ecosystems that we are protecting.

Collectively, the WBSC will helping regenerate mangrove ecosystems in Madagascar, protecting some of the most biodiverse reserves in Ecuador, and supporting the development of wind projects in India.

Additionally, the WBSC wants to provide a green template to its community to showcase how sport can be an ambassador for meeting sustainability and social goals. The year 2023 will be the most sustainable year in the WBSC’s history to celebrate our first 10 years as International Governing Body for the sport of baseball/softball after the merge between the International Softball Federation (ISF) and the International Baseball Federation (IBAF).
