Baseball5 Azraq Refugee Team

Welcome to the Baseball5 Azraq Refugee Team project, where our Vision to bring the benefits of the Beautiful Game accessible all over the world becomes reality! A remarkable initiative aimed at providing hope and opportunity for displaced people through the urban discipline of Baseball5.

This project was born out of a collaboration between the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), the World Taekwondo (WT) and the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), with the goal of using sports to promote social inclusion and integration of refugees.

Using Baseball5 to make baseball/softball available to refugees, forcibly displaced and disadvantaged people around the world and having them represented by a Refugee Team who will compete for a medal at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games are our main goals for this project.

Additionally, the project is bringing Olympic Values, Education Programmes, Physical and Psychosocial Wellbeing to young refugees contributing to build their citizenship and social cohesion between them and the local communities. To reduce inequalities and promote the value of diversity in a peaceful world.

Baseball5 is a fast-paced, urban version of baseball/softball that requires minimal equipment and can be played on any surface, making it accessible to people in all corners of the world. The Baseball5 Azraq Refugee Team project provides a unique opportunity for refugee athletes to participate in baseball5 and develop their skills, with the ultimate goal of representing their communities in international tournaments.

The project is designed to provide more than just sports training. Team sport, in fact, provides mentorship, educational support, and other resources to help them integrate into their new communities and build a better future for themselves and their families. By participating in this project, refugee athletes will not only gain a sense of accomplishment and purpose, but also become ambassadors of hope and inspiration for others.

Join us in supporting this exciting and important initiative that brings the power of sports to those who need it most. Me & the Refugee Baseball5 Team

Since most of the sports programmes, events and initiatives in which I have participated (as a player, teacher, educator, coach, referee and administrator) during my career were linked to educational, humanitarian and voluntary causes, I developed a deep personal interest on using my skills to develop youth and underprivileged people’s mental and physical strengths; this personal interest prompted me to use sports in general, and currently Baseball5 in particular, to educate children and the youth, especially those suffering from wars, conflicts and asylum.

My mission is to deeply understand the reality of their lives, to analyse their social and psychological characteristics, to track their developmental changes and to measure the impact of this project. Moreover, I wish to use the sport to stimulate a positive and natural learning process, providing them with life skills, modifying their behavior into positive attitudes and developing their basic mental and physical skills ensuring healthy life and psychosocial well-being.

Therefore, learning Baseball5 and using it as a tool to achieve my pedagogical objectives, has become a challenging and motivating topic for me. My current goal is to create a supportive and safe educational environment for the Azraq Team, preparing and rehabilitating these children by developing their hidden skills and abilities and alleviate their suffering in preparation of their future participation in upcoming local and international tournaments and moreover by preparing them to become good citizens hoping that they will have a better opportunity in life for their future.

I thank the WBSC for launching this initiative in Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan and for giving me this golden opportunity. I will strive for the success of this project!
