Baseball5 Youth World Cup Africa Qualifier: Zambia opens U-18 Baseball5 National Team camp

After the inaugural U-18 National Championship, head coach Andrew Zulu and WBSC envoy coach Andrea D'Auria selected 13 players. The WBSC Africa U-18 Baseball5 World Cup Qualifier is scheduled from 16 to 21 May in Ghana.

At the end of the inaugural Baseball5 U-18 National Championship, head coach Andrew Zulu announced a preliminary roster for the U-18 Zambia National Team, with an eye towards the WBSC Africa Qualifier to the first Baseball5 Youth World Cup, which is scheduled from 16 to 21 May on the Cape Coast, Ghana.

The initial roster includes 13 players before reducing the final roster to 10 players, five male and five female athletes.

Preliminary Roster:
Male athletes: David Kalunga and Sunday Kangongo (Lusaka Province); Meek Kakumbi and James Kamanga (Southern); Derrick Chemba and Siame Mwela (Copperbelt); Edson Seme (Central).
Female athletes: Rita Katanje, Margaret Phiri and Selina Banda (Lusaka); Precious Yeyenga and Catherine Chitani (Southern); Towela Nafukwe (Copperbelt).

The 13 players trained during a two-day camp under WBSC envoy coach Andrea D'Auria.

"The athletes were prepared mentally and physically," Zulu told the local press. "They showcased it during the tournament. Andrea D'Auria, the WBSC specialist, was impressed by the level of our players. I can guarantee you that Zambia will qualify for the Youth Baseball5 World Cup."
