Chinese Taipei win a wild one against Panama, head undefeated to Super Round
The two teams needed four pitchers to go through two innings, and then there was no score in the last four. Yi Lei Sun had four RBIs.
Chinese Taipei defeated Panama, 10-6, to finish group play undefeated. The game was off to a wild start, with the teams tied at six after two innings and hot phone lines to the respective bullpens. Chinese Taipei scored four in the top of the third to take a lead that would resist. Reliever Chi Hao Shu worked two scoreless innings that silenced Panama's bats.
It was not an afternoon for pitchers in Bradenton. Both starters, Ismael Cordoba and Chia Wei Lin, didn't survive the first inning.
Panama took a 4-1 lead in the top of the second, getting to reliever Yen En Wang with five hits. Chinese Taipei thought they had things under control when they got to Samuel Perez and Moises Castillo with five more runs, but Panama struck right back.
Chinese Taipei took the final lead in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs against Castillo and Ismael Velasco. Right fielder Yi Lei Sun had four RBIs.
Shu Chi Hao took the mound in the bottom of the fourth and worked two scoreless innings. He changed the course of the game and earned the win.
