Japan, Philippines qualify for WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup, complete field of teams for Auckland

Japan defeated Philippines, 9-2, in the final of the 11th Men’s Softball Asian Cup in Kochi, Japan, to win the continental title.

Men's softball No. 2 Japan and No. 21 Philippines have qualifed for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup 2022, completing the field of teams that will compete for the world title from 26 November to 4 December in Auckland, New Zealand.

Both teams faced off in the final of the 11th Men’s Softball Asian Cup in Kochi, where host Japan defeated Philippines, 9-2, to win the continental title. Both finalists advance to the World Cup as the top-two Asian teams.

After the Super Round, there was a three-way tie between the Philippines, Singapore and India for second place, with the Philippine team winning the tie break with the lowest number of runs allowed.

The WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup will feature 11 of the top-12 teams in the world: No. 1 and defending world champion Argentina, No. 2 Japan, No. 3 Canada, No. 4 Australia, No. 5 Czech Republic, No. 6 New Zealand, No. 7 USA, No. 9 Venezuela, No. 10 Denmark, No. 11 South Africa and No. 12 Cuba and No. 21 Philippines.
