Alekman's diving catch at the U-15 Women's Softball World Cup opens the countdown of the Top-10 WBSC Softball World Cup Plays of the Year.

Welcome to the Top-10 WBSC Softball Plays of the Year, a review of the best 10 plays in the WBSC Softball World Cups in 2023. We open the countdown with a great diving play by catcher Samantha Alekman, who helped USA win the world title at the inaugural U-15 Women's Softball World Cup.

It's 21st October, Day 1 in Tokyo, Japan at the latest Softball World Cup to join the WBSC events portfolio, as Brazil and USA make their debut in the tournament. USA scored eight runs in the second inning to hold a comfortable 9-0 lead over Brazil. In the top of the fourth, Brazil's starting pitcher and second base Maya Mune stepped into the box with two outs and a runner in scoring position.

After two consecutive balls, the US lefty pitcher Lilly Pullen fired a pitch in the middle of the zone. Mune popped up in foul territory as Alekman hustled in to make a sweet diving catch to secure the out and end the inning.

USA went on to win the game in the bottom of the fourth, 10-0.
