The WBSC Executive Committee unanimously approved, upon review by the Legal Commission, a revision of Disciplinary By-Laws and Safeguarding from Harassment and Abuse Rules recommended by the WBSC Integrity Unit and WBSC Safeguarding Officers to improve the protection of everyone in the international Baseball/Softball community.
The main changes are:
- Inclusion of child protection
- Inclusion of online protection
- Clarification on the scope of application
- Clarification on procedure of case management and responsibilities
- Clarification on our appealing procedures
- Appendices (incl. Official Reporting Form, Flow Chart and Guidelines)
Through these amendments and the recent announcement of #Safecall Guidelines, the WBSC Integrity Unit expects to provide a clearer and more coherent procedure to support those in need including how the Integrity Unit plays a crucial role in providing education and taking care of reports.
The #Safecall Guidelines will be presented to athletes, officials and everyone involved in WBSC events by dedicated Safeguarding Officers to ensure participants have a safe environment to perform in.
The appointed Safeguarding Officers recently attended two internal workshops to review recent changes in the procedure and to provide a standardised approach in all WBSC events in 2023.
The WBSC has appointed a Safeguarding Officer to its events since 2018.
All the Disciplinary By-Laws and Safeguarding Rules updates are available for download from the Integrity Unit section on WBSC.org. The WBSC #Safecall Guidelines are available in 13 languages.
