WBSC, Olympic Solidarity launch four Baseball5 coaching clinics in Africa

The initiative aims to boost Baseball5 development and targets the 2026 Youth Olympics. The first clinic opened in Nairobi, Kenya and will run through 3 December.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), WBSC Africa and Olympic Solidarity launched a cycle of four Baseball5 Coaching Clinics to support the growth of the five-on-five version of baseball/softball in the Continent hosting the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar.

The first clinic opened on Friday, 1 December, at Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya, and will run through Sunday, 3 December.

Coaches from East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) will participate in the clinic.

Abuja, Nigeria, will host a second clinic for coaches from Western Africa from 12 to 14 December.

The other two clinics are scheduled for early 2024 and will be directed to coaches from Northern and Southern Africa.

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and the OlympAfrica Foundation to promote the introduction of Baseball5 in Africa as a part of a strategy aiming at promoting sports education on the continent.

Fraccari recently stated that Baseball5 is set to play a "key role" in success of the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.
