World Baseball Softball Day: One Week To Go!

The WBSC invites National Federations and the wider baseball/softball community to engage in ongoing social media campaigns in celebration of World Baseball Softball Day. To add to the festivities, a US$10,000 equipment grant will be awarded to the National Federation or club that showcases the most innovative activation.

On Friday 10 May, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) will proudly celebrate its 10th anniversary as the international world governing body of baseball/softball with the first-ever World Baseball Softball Day.

It is a milestone worth celebrating, and the WBSC has invited Member Federations and the wider baseball/softball community to engage in social media campaigns and share their enthusiasm using the suggested hashtags: #WorldBaseballSoftballDay and #WBSD.

Some WBSC Members have already started promoting World Baseball Softball Day, giving a preview of the passion and anticipation amongst the global baseball/softball community building up to the 10 May celebration.

USA Softball kicked off the excitement by reminiscing about the 2021 U-18 Women's Softball World Cup gold medal.

Meanwhile, the Baseball Association of Hong Kong-China has emphasised the importance of the celebration and invited all its stakeholders to join the celebrations.

The Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines also got the countdown underway with a two-weeks-left to go to World Baseball Softball Day post.

As various members of the global baseball and softball community get their campaigns underway, the WBSC will later present a US$10,000 equipment grant to the National Federation or club that showcases the most innovative activation.

The World Baseball Softball Day marks the anniversary of the WBSC, with the inaugural WBSC Congress, which saw Riccardo Fraccari elected the first president, taking place in Hammamet, Tunisia in 2014. This completed a successful merger between the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and the International Softball Federation (ISF), which began with a historic announcement at the IBAF Congress in Tokyo in April 2013.

Leading up to the celebration, the WBSC headquarters in Pully Switzerland will be filled with activity as the entire staff engages in key operational and planning meetings. Public activities will include the first WBSC Athletes Summit on Wednesday, 8 May.

As the pinnacle of the festivities, the WBSC gala dinner at the Olympic Museum on the evening of 10 May promises to be a memorable event. The WBSC has warmly invited all National Federations to participate in this important occasion.

Following the World Baseball Softball Day, on Saturday 11 May, a WBSC Executive Board meeting will take place.

Let’s all come together to celebrate World Baseball Softball Day!
