Tunisia win Baseball5 African Championship, qualify for II WBSC Baseball5 World Cup with runner up South Africa

They defeated the defending champions 2-0 in the final. Hong Kong will host the next WBSC Baseball5 World Cup.

World No. 4 Tunisia beat No. 7 South Africa in the final, 2-0 (5-1, 7-6) at the Vavá Duarte Sports Pavilion (Pavilhão Desportivo) in Praia, Santiago Island, Cape Verde, to claim the 2024 Baseball5 African Championship. Both National Teams qualified for the II WBSC Baseball5 World Cup. The hosts, Cape Verde, finished third,

Tunisia and South Africa dominated the opening round with a 5-1 record. Tunisia beat the defending Baseball5 African champions in a very tight semifinal, winning both sets by a one-run difference (3-2, 5-4).

South Africa earned their spot in the II WBSC Baseball5 World Cup and the right to compete in the final with a 2-0 (4-2, 5-3) win against Cape Verde.

World No. 24 Tanzania finished fourth.

Aicha Saidana and Wajih Mathlouthi (Tunisia) were named the tournament MVPs.

During the closing ceremony, WBSC Africa announced the All-Tournament Team: Jorge Tadeu Sanches Gomes (Cape Verde), Itumeleng Moreroa (South Africa), Sindani Vitus Katanga (Tanzania), Maria Fernanda Mendes Correia (Cape Verde) and Sylvester Maredi (South Africa).

Hong Kong, China, will host the second WBSC Baseball5 World Cup later this year at the Central Harbourfront Event Space. The official dates will be announced soon.

Cuba won the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup in 2022.
