Day 2 at The World Games softball competition

Live updates on Day 2 of The World Games softball competition, with the top eight teams in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings competing for the gold medal and the title of world champion.

Day 2 of The World Games softball competition is underway. Check all the information of the tournament (schedule, stats, rosters, standings) at The World Games softball event dedicated website.

Japan and USA finished day two of The World Games softball competition with two wins and sit atop of Groups A and B respectively. USA defeated Italy and Chinese Taipei, while Japan completed their postponed game against Australia and topped Mexico.

Chinese Taipei vs USA

Bottom 6th: TPE 0-7 USA - A pair of RBI singles by Haylie McCleney and Amanda Lorenz give USA the win over Chinese Taipei.

Bottom 3rd: TPE 0-5 USA - A Hannah Flippen homerun and an RBI single by Dejah Mulipola extend the lead for USA.

Bottom 2nd: TPE 0-3 USA - USA scores three with RBI by Dejah Mulipola and Janae Jefferson to take the lead in the last game of the day.

USA 6-0 Italy

Top 5th: USA 6-0 ITA - A sacrifice fly by Michelle Moultrie makes it 6-0 for USA. Local star Montana Fouts replaces Aly Carda to pitch the bottom of the fifth.

Top 4th: USA 5-0 ITA - USA adds one with a sacrifice fly by Haylie McCleney to plate Janae Jefferson, who got on base with a leadoff triple to right field.

Top 1st: USA 4-0 ITA - USA scores first on a bases-loaded RBI single by Kinzie Hansen, a two-out, two-run single by Taylor Pleasants and an infield single by Michelle Moultrie.

Puerto Rico 0-3 Australia

Bottom 6th: PUR 0-3 AUS - Jade Wall hits a massive home run to left field. Then pinch runner Stephanie Trzcinski scores from third on a wild pitch. Australia adds two insurance runs for Ellen Roberts.

Top 5th: PUR 0-1 AUS - Australian right hander Ellen Roberts has pitched five scoreless innings. She's allowed 3 hits while striking out 4. We have a close game at Hoover Met Stadium.

Bottom 3rd: PUR 0-1 AUS - A Taylah Tsitsikronis sacrifice fly to right-center field produces the first run of the game. Michelle Cox scored from third.

Italy 4-10 Canada

Bottom 6th: ITA 4-10 CAN - Canada rallies for four runs and extends the difference to six runs.

Top 6th: ITA 4-6 CAN - Canada's reliever Nicola Simpson has pitched extremely well. She came in in relief in the second inning, and has pitched 4.1 innings giving up 1 hit and no runs. She has struck out 2.

Bottom 4th: ITA 4-6 CAN - A leadoff triple by Victoria Hayward and a single by Kelsey Harshman gives Canada a two-run gap after four complete innings.

Bottom 3rd: ITA 4-5 CAN - Canada goes ahead in the game with 2-run single off the bat of Allysen Febrey.

Bottom 2nd: ITA 4-3 CAN - Canda's bats come alive in their second at bat. Erika Polidori scores Canada's first run on an infield single by Janet Leung after a comebacker to Italian starter Ilaria Cacciamani who couldn't make the play. Thenn, an illegal pitch with the bases loaded allowed Leung to score from third, and Victoria Hayward hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it a one-run ballgame.

Top 2nd: ITA 4-0 CAN - Vigna produces one more in her second at bat with a single over the left field line to plate Fabrizia Marrone.

Top 1st: ITA 3-0 CAN - Italy scored three in the top of the first with a pair of home runs. Laura Vigna hit a leadoff homer to right field, while Giulia Longhi went yard with a 2-run bomb over the center field fence.

Australia 1-10 Japan

Japan gets the zero in the top of the fifth inning to complete yesterday's game against Australia. The Japanese team takes control of Group B with a pair of wins and qualified for the semifinals.

Mexico 0-6 Japan

Top 7th: MEX 0-6 JPN - Miu Goto enters the circle in the seventh and completes the combined no-hitter.

Top 6th: MEX 0-6 JPN - Sakura Miwa is pulled off the game after five innings. Misaki Katsumata retires the side and keeps the no-hitter alive.

Bottom 5th: MEX 0-6 JPN - Fujita keeps contributing. She hits her second homer of the tournament, a two run shot to center field. She's now 3-for-3 with 4 RBI. Japan adds one more with a run-scoring single by Yuka Ichiguchi.

Top 5th: MEX 0-3 JPN - Sakura Miwa retires the side in the top of the fifth and her no-hitter bid is still intact after five innings.

Bottom 4th: MEX 0-3 JPN - An RBI single by Kanna Kudo plates Minori Naito, and now the score is 3-0.

Bottom 3rd: MEX 0-2 JPN - Fujita lines a hard-hit double down the left-field line to plate the second run of the game. The WBSC Player of the Year 2021 is 2-for-2 with 2 RBI. In the circle, Japanese starter Sakura Miwa has not allowed a hit in three frames.

Bottom 1st: MEX 0-1 JPN - A two-out RBI triple to right field off the bat of Yamato Fujita plates the game's first run. Yuka Ichicguchi scored from first after hitting a single to left field.
