Guatemala 4-3 Mexico: Morales rallies Guatemala to Super Round after beating Mexico

Diego Morales added nine more strikeouts in his record to take his tally to 36 and, more importantly, bring Guatemala to the U-18 Men's Softball World Cup Super Round.

Right-handed pitcher Diego Morales was on fire once more after striking out nine Mexico batters to lift Guatemala to the U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup Super Round with a 4-3 win over Mexico. They finish the preliminary round with a 3:2 win:loss card.

Morales pitched seven innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs to earn the victory for Guatemala, and Diego Guerra hit 2 RBIs in their win. Mexican pitcher Marco Diaz lost the game, with four strikeouts in four innings.

Mexican clean-up hitter Jesus Rivera immediately plated Eloy Flores and Abelardo Penuelas before Josue Martinez launched an RBI triple for a 3-0 start for Mexico in the first. But Guerra hit back by firing a double to the center field bring Dilan Gonzalez and Morales in and close the inning down by just a run 3-2.

In the third inning, Guatemalan first baseman Alejandro Rojas hit a grounder to plate Juan Medina and bring the match to a deadlock. The game-winning run was scored by Jonathan Cajina in the fifth episode, on a wild pitch.

In the seventh, Mexico hit back-to-back singles with one out, but Morales shut out Mexican batters with a pop up fly and a strikeout, for the 4-3 win for Guatemala.
