GIJANG, Korea — Day 2 of the LG Presents VII WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 featured four early KOs and two intense one-run games – and again several highlights from the buzzing Hyundai-Gijang Dream Ballpark on Sunday.

Venezuela, Japan, Canada and Australia recorded easy victories over Pakistan, Netherlands, India and Hong Kong.  In the loss, Pakistan scored the nation’s first-ever World Cup run.  The win for Japan extended the four-time defending world champions’ win-streak to 14 World Cup games.

Day 2 scores

In an exciting game filled with amazing plays on defense and a frenzied crowd, Megan Baltzell hit the tournament’s first home run — a 2-run blast to help push the U.S. past Chinese Taipei, 2-1.  Marti Sementelli (6 IP 4 H, 1 ER) earned the win, while Jade Gortarez worked a perfect final inning to pick up the save.

Following dazzling plays by the Korean National Team outfield to keep Cuba from extending a 3-1 lead, the host nation scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning – including a bold squeeze bunt to tie the game — before first baseman Lee Sel Yang (3-for-3) singled in the game-winning run.
