LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The WBSC has partnered with Fortune 500 company LG Electronics and the Women’s Baseball Association of Korea (WBAK) on the staging of the 2015 LG Cup.

The renewed partnership extends from the launch of the LG Cup in 2014.

The home of the newest international women’s baseball platform is LG Champion’s Park in Icheon, South Korea.

The LG Cup will be played from 28-31 August, providing an opportunity for more than 170 women athletes across eight teams — from seven countries.

The eight teams represented in this year’s tournament include clubs from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Taiwan, USA as well as two teams from the host country, South Korea.

“At LG, we do not believe there should be any limits on the dreams of young women in sports,” said Koo Bon-joon, CEO of LG Electronics. “Baseball is a terrific activity for people of all ages and gender and an ideal sport to facilitate athletic inspiration and achievement.”

WBSC Executive Director Michael Schmidt said: “It’s an honour to continue this partnership with LG and WBAK in working to shape a more level playing field and society. As an iconic and globally recognised brand, we are thrilled that LG shares this vision to utilise the sport of baseball as a vehicle for positive change.”
