Canada opened the Super Round with a come-from-behind win against neighbours USA, 4-3, to remain undefeated in the tournament. Bryan Abrey brought in the game-winning run with a line drive double to left center field in the sixth inning.

USA grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning with the swing of Cam Schiller, who sent a Sean Cleary pitch over the center field fence with two runners on base.

Brad Kilpatrick, the US starter, was in control for the first half of the game, but Canada did some damage in the second part of the game. In the fourth frame, Bryan Abrey plated Brad Ezekiel with a single, and then Colin Walsh made it a one-run ballgame with a grounder.

One inning later, Shane Boland tied the game with a solo home run to left field; and in the sixth Abre gave produced the game winning run of the game with a double to left field.

Canada’s reliever Justin Schofield, who got the win after two innings of work, faced a bases loaded situation in the top of the seventh, but escaped unscattered closing the game with a strikeout.

Canada improved their record to 3-0 in the Super Round, and tomorrow will play Argentina; while USA dropped to 1-2 and on Friday will face Australia.

Quotes: Canada Coach - John Stuart

"Perseverance was the key for us. We would sharp at the beginning, we did not have good at-bats and we made a couple of errors in the field. The guys just persevered and stayed with the process and I am real happy with it.

"It was a great game. They are a great, great team with great coaches and a great fielding team – they turned a couple of double plays – and a great hitters and their pitcher did a bang-up job today. It was a big win for us.

"I don’t think it was our best performance but it was our biggest win so far. I think our best performance is still to come. It was a huge win for sure."
