Dominican Republic comes back to beat Korea in extras

It's the first loss for Korea in the VI WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup. The Dominicans will now need to beat Japan on 3 August to advance to the super round.

The Dominican Republic earned their first win in the VI WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup. After an impressive comeback and two extra innings, they defeated Korea, 5-4.

The first two Korean hitters reached against starter Jorge Jimenez. Right fielder Sengwoo An delivered a bases-loaded single to make it 1-0.

Korea looked in control. Pitcher Woochan Jung, center fielder Doyul Lee and left fielder Jinho Kim doubled and extended the lead to 4-0.

Left handed reliever Jerson Guzman took over for Jimenez and it was lights out for Korea.

Starter Juwon Jung left in the bottom of the fourth with two runners on, and the Dominicans got to reliever Yungeon Shin. They added a pair of infield singles and made the most of two defensive errors to tie it at four.

The Dominican Republic got out of a couple of jams in the extra innings thanks to a bases-loaded strikeout off the arm of German Altagracia and a pair of double plays in the 7th and 8th innings.

Korea got out of the seventh thanks to a double play, but reliever Juwon Jung walked third baseman Enmanuel Castro with the bases loaded to end the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Altagracia earned the win pitching 1.1 perfect innings.

On Tuesday, Korea will face the United States in their final game in group play. The Dominican Republic will face the Czech Republic on Tuesday and Japan on Wednesday. With the US already qualified for the Super Round out of Group B, there's the possibility of a three-way tie for the remaining two spots in the Super Round.
