Chinese Taipei tops Mexico 2-1 in rain-shortened game
The unexpected rain in Hermosillo acted as the 10th player for Chinese Taipei, as the Asian squad started their journey at the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup on the right foot.
Chinese Taipei secured a key win to start their participation at the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup after topping Mexico, 2-1, in a five-inning contest that ended early due to rain and unplayable field conditions. Rain poured down a few minutes after Chinese Taipei took the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Mexico jumped out in front, scoring in the second to make it a 1-0 game. Chinese Taipei countered with two runs in the fourth inning to secure the win in this shortened game.
Starter Yao-Yun Chang was credited with the complete-game win, throwing five innings, surrendering only two hits, one earned run while striking out four.
Chinese Taipei (1-0) will try to secure a place in the Super Round when the Asian squad faces Czechia on Day 3, while Mexico (0-2) is off on Monday and will try to keep their tournament hopes alive against Czechia on Tuesday.
