Puerto Rico defeats South Africa in five innings to remain undefeated in Group C
In their first appearance in a WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup, Puerto Rico earned their second consecutive win and moved to 2-0 in Group C.
A 10-run fifth inning secured the win for Puerto Rico over South Africa, 17-1, in Game 11 of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2022. Isaac Carrasquillo led a 16-hit offense for the Puerto Ricans. In their first WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup participation, Puerto Rico earned their second consecutive win and moved to 2-0 in Group C.
Carrasquillo went 4-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. In addition, he stole two bases in the game. Leadoff hitter Gustavo Melendez and Carlos Carlo went 3-for-4 with three runs scored each.
South Africa scored their only run in the bottom of the third inning, when a grounder by Imaad Hassiem plated Joshua Botha, who went 2-for-2 in the game.
The winning pitcher of the game was Frank Rodriguez, while Stiaan Henning took the loss.
Puerto Rico (2-0) will play USA tomorrow, while South Africa (0-3} will have a day off.
