WBSC Executive Board prepares for 4th Congress

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari thanked the hosts Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) for doing "a great job".

The WBSC Executive Board held its last term meeting at the Marriott Hotel in Taipei City on Sunday, on the eve of the 4th WBSC Congress where the member federations will elect a new Board on Tuesday, 5 July.

The 4th Congress of the international governing body for baseball and softball takes place on Monday and Tuesday at the Marriot Hotel in Taipei City (TPE) gathering the global baseball and softball family for the first time since the 3rd Congress in Sakai, Japan in 2019.

The Board officially thanked the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) for hosting and organising its IV Congress. "We are expecting a great turn out of delegates. Accommodating them all during these difficult times required a great job by the organisers CTBA," President Fraccari said. "It's a great pleasure to be able to see everybody in person for the first time since 2019."

Athletes Commission co-chair Justin Huber thanked President Fraccari for "your leadership which has inspired generations of athletes to play our great game. Thank you also to the Executive Board, it's been a pleasure to work alongside you all and an amazing experience, starting with the meetings with the IOC in St Petersburg to get baseball/softball on the programme of the 2020 Olympics. Our aim is to have as many boys and girls playing the game we love and it's been an honour to be able to help with that mission," said the former Australian international baseball star.

"Athletes play an increasingly important role in our organisation," President Fraccari replied. "And we are grateful for the contribution all the athlete representatives have made. Going forward, we're expecting to have even more "

President Fraccari also updated the Board on the impressive performance on the WBSC in the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Good Governance report. "The fact our governance scored so high in the ASOIF evaluation is a clear sign that we are all working in the right direction. With that great result, coupled with the new Strategic Plan 2022-2028, which is line with the IOC 2020+5 Agenda, we are in a great position to take baseball and softball in further globally. The IOC gave us very positive feedback on the Strategic Plan and effectually embraced our project."
