KBO: Doosan Bears top KT Wiz, advance to sixth straight Korean Series

The defending KBO champions will face the NC Dinos, the winners of the regular season. The whole series will be played at the Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul.

The Doosan Bears defeated the KT Wiz three games to one in the playoff series to advance to the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) 'Korean Series'. It's the sixth straight championship series which features the Doosan Bears. The defending champions will face the NC Dinos, the top finisher of the regular season.

The Bears were off to an excellent start to the series. They won the first two games, 3-2 and 4-1. The Wiz stayed alive with a 5-2 win in game three, recording their first-ever success in the postseason.

Veteran second baseman Choi Joo-hwan proved to be the key player of Game 4.

Choi prevented KT Wiz from scoring early in the game with a perfect throw to home plate and gave the Bears all the runs they needed with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. Choi represented Korea in the IBAF Intercontinental Cup 2010 and in the WBSC (then IBAF) Baseball World Cup 2011.

Kim Min-kyu, a 21-year-old right-handed reliever, earned the win going four and 2/3 innings while allowing only a walk and a hit and striking out four.

The 2020 Korean Series will open on Tuesday, 17 November. The best-of-seven KBO championship series will be played entirely at the Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul, the only roofed stadium in the country. The SkyDome hosted Group C of the 2019 WBSC Premier12.
