WBSC Workshops on Governance and Anti-Doping “Educate and Empower” National Federations at Europe Congress

"It’s crucial that we – the global baseball and softball community - educate and empower our members and most importantly the athletes, who are a vital component of our sport and the key beneficiary of all the education resources that the WBSC offers,” said WBSC Chief Operating Officer Marco Ienna.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) provided a key workshop on Governance and Anti-Doping to European members on the eve of the WBSC Europe Congress taking place in Malaga, Spain on Saturday.

The WBSC Integrity Unit emphasised the need for member federations to ensure they take advantage of cost efficient tools and resources provided by the WBSC to ensure their anti-doping programme is up to date and compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, International Standards, and WBSC Anti-Doping Rules.

WBSC Anti-doping Manager Victor Isola and Integrity Unit & Special Projects coordinator Yoori Jung explained how the WBSC and its partners - such as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and International Testing Agency (ITA) - are helping federations to be at the forefront of anti-doping, especially with the education of athletes using such platforms as , WADA's Anti-Doping Education and Learning Platform (ADEL) and ITA webinars.

"It’s crucial that we – the global baseball and softball community - educate and empower our members and most importantly the athletes, who are a vital component of our sport and the key beneficiary of all the education resources that the WBSC offers,” said WBSC Chief Operating Officer Marco Ienna, who also made a presentation on governance, which focused on the importance of good governance across all members.

A key resource recently published for members is the WBSC Members Handbook while the third round of the Continental Association Governance Review is currently in the moderation stage with final results expected in April, which will have an impact on WBSC Development Fund distribution to continents for 2024. The next step will be the WBSC National Federations Governance Review
