The second round at the I IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship in Mexico started on Wednesday. In group 1, which determines the participants for the Gold Medal Game, Cuba opened with a 14-4 seven-inning win over Nicaragua on Wednesday.

Cuba scored in four of the first five frames, highlighted by a six-run rally in the fifth. Ruben Alvarez led the way, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBI. Jose Amaury Norona scored three times, while Alexander Guerra drove in three.

On the mound Johan Oviedo issued four hits, three runs (2 ER) and three walks in five innings, striking out seven. Juan Hernandez closed it out. Fidel Estrella was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs (6 ER) on five hits and two base on balls.
