Offence rules at 15U Baseball World Championship after two Days

Chihuahua (Mexico). The second day of the I IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship is in the books. With the exception of the thrilling contest between Nicaragua and Germany the fans in Mexico saw lopsided results on Friday. In Group A Italy, Chinese Taipei and Mexico celebrated big wins with the host’s whipping of Lithuania in the evening being in the spotlight. In Group B Cuba and Argentina picked up mercy-rule victories. In Group C Nicaragua barely prevailed for their second win, while Venezuela shut out the Ukraine. Six games are on the schedule on Saturday.

Italy 17 – Lithuania 7

Italy overcame an early 1-6 deficit to down Lithuania 17-7 in an all-European duel in Chihuahua in the morning. The Squadra Azzurri picked up 15 hits along the way, including three doubles and three triples.

Nicaragua 5 – Germany 4

Just one big inning was needed for Nicaragua to down Germany 5-4 on Friday morning at Cuauhtémoc stadium. They scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the sixth, erasing a 0-2 deficit en route to their second victory of the tournament. Germany threatened to come back in the ninth, but left the bases loaded to end the game.

Indonesia 0 – Cuba 24 

Cuba is continuing to demonstrate their strength in Mexico. On Friday afternoon they took apart Indonesia 24-0 in five innings. They scored 15 runs alone in the second frame en route to the blowout.

Venezuela 15 – Ukraine 0

Venezuela entered the I IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship on Friday with a 15-0 shutout over the Ukraine. They scored 11 of their 15 runs in the second inning of the blowout. For the European team it was their second loss in the tournament.

Chinese Taipei 14 – Honduras 0

Chinese Taipei scored all 14 runs of their 14-0 shutout over Honduras between the second and fifth, celebrating their first win in the first game of the tournament. They were rained out on Thursday evening, while Honduras had beaten Lithuania.

Hong Kong 8 – Argentina 18

Argentina has entered the competition with an 18-8 rout over Hong Kong. The South Americans scored eight runs in the second to turn a 2-1 lead into a commanding advantage. Hong Kong tried to come back, but Argentina added seven runs combined in the seventh and eighth to run away. It was the second loss for Hong Kong, which was beaten by Cuba on opening day.

Lithuania 0 – Mexico 44

After the official opener against Chinese Taipei had to be postponed Mexico kicked off their schedule at the I IBAF Baseball World Championship on Friday evening in Chihuahua with a whopping 44-0 blowout over Lithuania.
