Matt Moore back to MLB after winning NPB's Japan Series with Fukuoka

The veteran southpaw pitched seven innings of no-hit baseball in Game 3 of the championship series against the Tokyo Giants. He agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB) signed left-handed pitcher Matt Moore to a one-year contract worth a reported US$ 3 million. The 31-year old spent the 2020 season in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). His contract was reportedly worth a guaranteed US$ 3.5 million plus incentives.

Moore was the ace of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks' pitching staff and helped them earn a fourth consecutive NPB Japan Series title. Moore went 6-3 in 13 games for the Hawks. He pitched seven innings of no-hit baseball in the third game of the best-of-seven championship series against Tokyo's Yomiuri Giants.

Moore was an MLB All-Star in 2013 with the Tampa Bay Rays. He missed most of the 2014 and 2015 seasons because of Tommy John Surgery. He suffered a season-ending knee injury while playing for the Detroit Tigers in 2019.
