WBSC to conduct anti-doping courses at U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup, Baseball5 Youth World Cup

These two activations, focused on the youngest athletes in both disciplines, have a pivotal role in the promotion and consciousness related to doping-prevention and clean-sport practices.

As part of a global, year round, anti-doping education programme, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), in partnership with the International Testing Agency (ITA), continues to offer education and training programmes, emphasising knowledge-sharing and direct communication with athletes, especially in the early stages of their career.

Within this framework, the WBSC announced a series of activations for the rest of the year, aiming to raise awareness among youth athletes and National Federation members about sport values, fair play, anti-doping rules, clean sport and the consequences of doping, among many others.

After an initial presentation at the WBSC U-12 Softball World Cup 2022, the WBSC and ITA will conduct two seminars for tournament participants in October. The first one will take place during the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup, which takes place from 10-15 October in Ankara, Türkiye - the first ever Baseball5 World Cup for youth players.

In addition, players from 12 teams will be invited to an educational program during the inaugural WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup, to be played from 21-29 October in Tokyo, Japan.

These two activations, focused on the youngest athletes in both disciplines, have a pivotal role in the promotion and consciousness related to doping-prevention and clean-sport practices.

In addition, the WBSC will host a sport-specific webinar exclusively reserved to all WBSC Members in November / December (exact dates and times will be announced at a later stage). All the content of this webinar will be tailored for baseball and softball.

The ITA and the WBSC have been collaborating since January 2020 with an increasing degree of delegation to the ITA for independent management of different areas of its anti-doping program over the past three years.

Earlier this year, the WBSC and ITA conducted a series of webinars to help further educate practitioners.
