In a crucial game between two unbeaten sides, two consecutive bunts put the Chinese Taipei defence under pressure in the second innings and broke the score open for Korea. A four-run second became the turning point of the game. Korea protected the lead with solid defence, then handed the ball to untouchable relievers, Kyuyeon Kim and Donghyun Sung.

Pitcher Yadiel Rolon threw a complete game for Puerto Rico. The 'Boricuas' ended the game in five innings, 10-0.

Germany scored two runs in the second and third. Cuba came from behind in the bottom of the third to tie the game and went ahead in the fourth.

Venezuela scored one run in each of the first three innings. Starting pitcher Carlos Naveda went five innings, striking out four and allowing one hit and one walk.

The second phase will run from 20 through 22 October. The medal games are scheduled for Sunday, 23 October at Tianmu Stadium in Taipei City.
